In September, more than 800 babies were exposed to TB at the hospital when an employee came to work with an active case of TB for nearly a year. The hospital paid the public health department for its help with notifying patients’ families and testing and treating the babies for TB. The final cost for the exposure incident is not yet determined.
CMS placed Providence Memorial on “immediate jeopardy” status following the exposure, but, on Dec. 29, CMS found the hospital to be in compliance and placed the hospital back on “deemed” status, according to the report.
