The Paperwork Reduction Act aims at reducing the total amount of paperwork burden that federal agencies impose on private businesses and citizens.
According to the AAF, dozens of agencies have ignored the Act, either by issuing paperwork requirements without proper approval or by allowing paperwork approvals to lapse without following the renewal process.
HHS is the biggest violator of the act, with 154 violations in the last three years. It has received a “poor” grade from the Office of Management and Budget within the White House. HHS is followed by the Department of Defense, with 88 violations in the last three years.
According to the report, the number of Paperwork Reduction Act violations has been increasing every year. It increased from 53 violations in 2008 to 303 violations in 2011.
