CMS: Hospital-Based Home Health Agencies Could See 1.1% Payment Cut

CMS has issued a proposed rule that would reduce hospital-based home health payments in 2014 by 1.1 percent.

The proposed payment cut would be part of price adjustments reflecting a market basket increase, rebasing adjustments, and ICD-10 coding changes. For non-hospital-based home health payments, the cut would be slightly larger, at 1.5 percent.

Other features of the proposed rule include quality reporting requirements for rehospitalization and guidelines on emergency room use for the first month of a home healthcare stay.

The final rule will be published July 3. Comments will be accepted until Aug. 26.
