52 health systems urge 5-year hospital-at-home extension

Fifty-two health systems are calling on Congress to enact a five-year extension of CMS’ hospital-at-home reimbursement waiver.

The program, which allows CMS to pay for acute hospital care at home, expires Sept. 30 without congressional action. Bipartisan bills have been introduced to lengthen the waiver through 2030.

“Extending the waiver again is not just a policy choice; it’s a critical step toward transforming how care is delivered in this country, creating an important option for patients, caregivers and providers,” the Moving Health Home alliance wrote Sept. 3 to congressional leaders. “A five-year extension creates the certainty hospitals need to confidently invest and innovate — turning promising demonstrations into sustainable, scalable care models.”
