Potosi, Mo.-based Washington County Memorial Hospital had to evacuate patients after a mechanical failure caused the hospital’s laboratory to fill with smoke, First Alert 4 reported July 13.
On July 13 around 11 a.m., a motor on a machine on top of the hospital jammed and began to smoke, the Potosi Fire Protection District said. After the lab filled with smoke, the hospital evacuated over a dozen patients, 10 of whom were taken to other hospitals.
The hospital was cleared around 4 p.m. and has since reopened.
