Elkin, N.C.-based Hugh Chatham Health has joined Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, which will invest $100 million into its newest member.
Hugh Chatham Health includes an 81-bed acute care hospital, a medical group with more than 70 providers across 25 locations, a home healthcare division and joint ventures in a critical access hospital and hospice/palliative care organization, according to a joint July 8 news release. It employs more than 900 people.
“Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s deep commitment and experience with serving rural communities like Elkin was one of the key drivers of our decision to select them as our partner,” Hugh Chatham Health Board of Trustees Chairwoman Cynthia Gonzalez said in the release.
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s $100 million investment will:
- Implement an Epic EHR system
- Advance recruitment and retention of primary care and speciality care providers
- Support and expand current clinical programs such as women’s services, heart and vascular care, and cancer care
- Provide professional and care growth opportunities for Hugh Chatham Health providers and employees.
It is also committing $30 million to establish the Yadkin Valley Wellness Foundation, which will advance health and priorities in the community and ensure that the terms and conditions of the broader affiliation are fully met.
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is part of Charlotte-based Advocate Health, the third-largest nonprofit health system in the U.S.
