Infectious disease physician Dr. Eric Rubin to helm New England Journal of Medicine

The Massachusetts Medical Society, publisher of the New England Journal of Medicine, has selected Eric J. Rubin, MD, PhD, editor-in-chief of the journal and NEJM Group, effective in September.

Dr. Rubin is the Irene Heinz Given professor of immunology and infectious diseases and chair of the immunology and infectious diseases department at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston.

He is also a senior associate member of the Broad Institute.

Dr. Rubin has served as associate editor of the New England Journal of Medicine since 2012. He also has served as an editor or editorial board member of several journals, including Current Opinion in Microbiology and mBio. He has authored 147 scientific articles.

He succeeds Jeffrey M. Drazen, MD, who is stepping down as editor in chief after 19 years.
