The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 lists the nationwide exchange of health information through interoperable EHRs as a national objective that should be met by Dec. 31, 2018.

In the proposed framework, ONC discusses how it will track the implementation of interoperability standards in health IT products, including assessments of how providers utilize and customize these standards for their organizations.

ONC is seeking public comment on its proposed framework. In particular, ONC hopes to receive feedback on how to engage relevant health IT stakeholders in implementing interoperability standards.
