Seattle Children’s Hospital. Seattle Children’s sees more than 600 admissions due to asthma each year, and the hospital is attempting to reduce its carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions to help children with asthma. It offers its employees an alternative transportation system to discourage driving to work. Just 37.4 percent of its employees drive to work now, down from 78 percent in 1995. It also invested $4 million in improving neighborhood transportation. The hospital’s Building Hope expansion received LEED Gold certification in 2013, and Practice Greenhealth gave Seattle Children’s its Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award this year.
