Reading (Pa.) Health Hospital. The Reading HealthPlex for Advanced Surgical & Patient Care will open to patients in October and its design is exemplary of the health system’s commitment to protecting and preserving the environment. For instance, the building boasts an 88,000-square-foot green roof, the third largest green roof on a healthcare building in the U.S. The roof will improve air quality by reducing the “heat island” effect generated by conventional asphalt rooftops. Additionally, the roof will reduce water runoff and energy use by acting like insulation, keeping the building cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
