Orlando (Fla.) Regional Medical Center. Orlando Regional Medical Center is one of the largest tertiary facilities in the region, with more than 800 beds. In January, the medical center opened a new 245-bed patient tower that is referred to as ORMC North Tower and is designed to meet LEED Silver certification standards. The construction of this addition incorporated green building strategies to lower operating costs, reduce energy use and increase building efficiency. Some features include natural durable materials and maximized natural light. The building has reduced the hospital’s water use by 40 percent and its energy use by 16 percent. ORMC also participates in all six HHI Challenges.
