William Roper, MD. CEO of UNC Health Care (Chapel Hill, N.C.). Dr. Roper joined UNC in 1997 as dean of the School of Public Health at UNC and was promoted to dean of the School of Medicine and vice chancellor for Medical Affairs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as CEO of UNC Health Care System. He is currently presiding over UNC Health Care’s efforts to combine with Carolinas HealthCare System, which would create one of the largest care delivery networks in the U.S. Both organizations signed a letter of intent in September to extend treatment beyond what either system could do individually. Before joining UNC, Dr. Roper held multiple leadership roles at Prudential Health Care in Newark, N.J., and was director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He also spent time serving on the senior White House staff and was administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration. Dr. Roper is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and member of the board of directors of DaVita and Express Scripts Holding Company.
