John McConnell, MD. Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (Winston-Salem, N.C.). Dr. McConnell was dubbed Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s first ever CEO in 2008. In 1984, he joined Dallas-based University of Texas Southwestern and held various positions while there, including urology department chair and executive vice president for administration, before being appointed executive vice president of health system affairs in 2003. A urologist, Dr. McConnell received his medical degree from Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine before finishing his residency at UT Southwestern.
