John Jay Shannon, MD. CEO of the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (Chicago). Dr. Shannon was unanimously appointed by the CCHHS board to run the system in June 2014. In the three months prior to the appointment, Dr. Shannon served as the interim CEO and the chief of clinical integration. Other executive roles he has filled include associate chair of the department of medicine and chief of the divisions of pulmonary and critical care medicine at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago and executive vice president and CMO at Parkland Health & Hospital System in Dallas. In September, Dr. Shannon shared CCHHS’s plans to combine adult and pediatric emergency services at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital, the system’s flagship location. This Chicago area native is also a husband and father to three adult children.
