Yale-New Haven Hospital is a 1,541-bed teaching hospital that was founded in 1826, leaving it with a rich history of contributions to cardiology. For instance, in 1949, researchers at Yale-New Haven Hospital developed the first artificial heart pump. Today, with a medical staff of more than 4,800, the hospital is nationally recognized for its focus on teaching, patient care, research and community service.
