Gary Kaplan, MD. Chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason Health System (Seattle). Dr. Kaplan has held his position as chairman and CEO of VMHS since 2000. He is also a practicing internal medicine physician. In 2013, Dr. Kaplan was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine. Additionally, he has received the Harry J. Harwick Lifetime Achievement Award from the Medical Group Management Association and the American College of Medical Practice Executives, the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award for Individual Achievement from the National Quality Forum, and was recognized by Becker’s Healthcare in 2013 as one of the 50 Experts Leading the Field of Patient Safety in the U.S. Dr. Kaplan is a fellow in of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Medical Practice Executives and the American College of Physician Executives.
