University Hospitals Case Medical Center (Cleveland). University Hospitals Case Medical Center was established in 1866. In its formative years, the hospital was supported by the same families that helped develope the city’s great civic and cultural institutions, including the Cleveland Museum of Art and The Cleveland Orchestra. In 1895, University Hospitals formally affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Today, UH Case Medical Center is a 1,032-bed tertiary medical center with nearly 9,000 employees. The medical center is led by President Daniel I. Simon, MD, and includes the UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital and UH Seidman Cancer Center.
UH Case Medical Center has earned Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In 2015-16, U.S. News & World Report named UH Case Medical Center the No. 2 hospital in Cleveland and in Ohio and ranked the hospital among the top 50 in the country in nine adult specialties and eight pediatric specialties. Healthgrades recognized UH Case Medical Center in 2016 with the 100 Best Hospitals for General Surgery Award and awards for excellence in clinical care, critical care, joint replacement, pulmonary care and stroke care.
