Baystate Medical Center (Springfield, Mass.). Baystate Medical Center is a Magnet-accredited teaching hospital, the region's only Level I trauma center and the flagship of the nonprofit, integrated system Baystate Health. Blue Cross Blue Shield Association has named the hospital a Blue Distinction Center+ for Knee and Hip Replacement. CareChex ranked Baystate Medical Center among the top 100 hospitals in the nation for major orthopedic surgery for 2017 and U.S. News & World Report rated the hospital as high performing in both hip and knee replacement this year as well. Baystate's orthopedics program is integrated with its trauma center, bringing in orthopedic trauma surgeons to manage secondary injuries alongside life-threatening injuries as the patient stabilizes.
