Texas Children’s Hospital (Houston). In 2013, the Healthcare Accreditation Colloquium named Texas Children’s Hospital the first Pediatric Health Failure Institute in Texas, a distinction shared with four other pediatric programs across the country. Physicians and surgeons at the nonprofit hospital treat more than 17,000 patients and perform around 800 surgeries annually. Direct Energy saw a need for growth and donated $5 million to Texas Children’s Hospital to expand the heart center to include a higher volume of patients with critical heart conditions. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons granted the hospital a three-star rating, the highest possible distinction, for congenital heart surgery.
