Established in 1977, NewYork-Presbyterian University Hospital has performed more heart transplants than any other hospital in the country. The heart transplant team at NewYork-Presbyterian launched the Alternative Heart Transplant Program, which expands the usual criteria by which donor hearts are accepted, and the hospital also has a research-based heart disease prevention program. In its 2013-14 rankings, U.S. News & World Report named NewYork-Presbyterian a top 10 hospital for cardiology and heart surgery.
