The Johns Hopkins Heart and Vascular Institute includes numerous centers and programs, such as the Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease, Comprehensive Cardiothoracic Transplant Center and Heart Failure Bridge Clinic. The institute provides an array of treatments and procedures, including aortic valve surgery, coronary artery bypass graft surgery and radiofrequency ablation for atrial fibrillation. It is actively involved in cardiovascular research and also organizes a retreat for heart care researchers to meet, share ideas and listen to cardiovascular experts. A Johns Hopkins physician — Bruce A. Perler, MD, — was recently named president-elect of the Society for Vascular Surgery. The hospital has also received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence.
