In addition to being ranked the No. 1 hospital in Missouri by U.S. News & World Report for 2014-15, Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University is also nationally ranked for cardiology and heart surgery. The American College of Cardiology recognized the hospital with its 2014 Platinum Performance Achievement Award, and the American Heart Association awarded the hospital a 2014 Resuscitation Quality Achievement Award for sustaining at least an 85 percent rate for quality measures among patients who need CPR. Specialists here were the first in Missouri to implant a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator in a patient in November 2013. Additionally, 32 heart specialists were named “Best Doctors in America” by Best Doctors Inc. in 2014.
