Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, which is responsible for cancer care and research at UT Southwestern Medical Center, is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in North Texas, serving nearly 7 million people across 12 counties. The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer recognized the center for a three-year accreditation with commendation, in addition to granting it the Outstanding Achievement Award in 2009. UT Southwestern Medical Center was ranked as one of the top 50 hospitals for cancer care in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16.
