UCSF Medical Center (San Francisco). UCSF Medical Center is known for its superior orthopedic care, research and innovation. The UCSF department of orthopedic surgery is ranked No. 2 in National Institutes of Health funding for orthopedic research and has received nearly $577.58 million this year, with 30 percent awarded to the UCSF Orthopaedic Trauma Institute, a collaboration between UCSF and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. UCSF Medical Center, which has 12,000-plus employees and 46,000 annual hospital admissions, was ranked No. 6 by U.S. News & World Report for adult orthopedics for 2017-18. The hospital also aims to improve orthopedic care around the world with the Institute for Global Orthopaedics and Traumatology, a nonprofit initiative founded in 2006.
