UC San Diego Health. UC San Diego Health has five academic medical centers, including UC San Diego Health-Hillcrest, a 390-bed facility that is one of the only regional Level I trauma centers in San Diego. The United States Olympic Committee designated UC San Diego a U.S. Olympic Regional Medical Center with the ability to administer medical services to USA athletes. Local athletic teams also realize the value of UC San Diego’s care; the health system became the official provider for the San Diego Padres in January 2017. Within the department of orthopedic surgery, there are 28 clinical faculty members and seven research faculty members. U.S. News & World Report ranked UC San Diego Health among the top 50 hospitals in the U.S. for orthopedics in 2017-18.
