Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla (Calif.). Established in 1924 by philanthropist and journalist Ellen Browning Scripps, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla offers a wide range of clinical, specialty and surgical services. The 318-bed hospital has more than 2,180 employees and more than 950 affiliated physicians.

Each year, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla handles roughly 125,000 patient visits and 30,550 emergency room visits. Annually, its clinicians perform more than 6,000 open-heart surgeries and deliver 3,900 babies.

Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla was named a Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospital this year and was one of 17 recipients of the 2016 Everest Award from Truven, which recognizes hospitals that, in addition to achieving benchmark status for one year, set national benchmarks for the fastest long-term improvement. In 2015-16, U.S. News & World Report ranked Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla the No. 7 hospital in California and nationally ranked eight of the hospital's adult specialties.
