Lehigh Valley Hospital (Allentown, Pa.). Situated approximately 95 miles outside New York City, Lehigh Valley Hospital is the flagship of Lehigh Valley Health Network, with roots dating back to 1899.

With more than 750 beds, the hospital has ties to a network of more than 1,340 primary care and specialty physicians. Children's Hospital at Lehigh Valley Hospital is the only children's hospital in the region, providing care in 28 specialties and general pediatrics.

U.S. News & World Report ranked Lehigh Valley Hospital as the No. 4 hospital in the state for 2013-14, along with designations as one of the top 50 hospitals in the country for seven specialties, including cardiology, orthopedics, urology and pulmonology. The hospital is Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and was named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals in 2014 by Healthgrades.

Lehigh Valley Hospital has embarked on several noteworthy initiatives in the past year. Its parent opened a Center for Orthopedic Medicine, a new structure that will host a range of orthopedic procedures, from total joint replacements to spine surgery. The hospital's affiliated preferred provider organization, Valley Preferred, also partnered with Cigna to launch an accountable care organization. The hospital was the first organization outside of Florida to partner with Tampa, Fla.-based Moffitt Cancer Center for its Moffitt Oncology Network, which will connect Lehigh Valley Hospital physicians and specialists to Moffitt experts for peer review, clinical pathways and other best practices.
