Houston Methodist Hospital. Houston Methodist Hospital opened in 1924. Throughout the years, the hospital's physicians have pioneered various medical procedures, including the world's first multiple-organ transplant in the 1960s.

The hospital is consistently recertified as a Magnet facility for nursing excellence, and it received the 2012 Magnet Prize Honors Award from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and Cerner Corp. for its success in reducing sepsis-related mortality.

Houston Methodist Hospital's affiliated research institute is home to more than 700 clinical trials. The hospital has been the site of a number of medical innovations, including a minimally invasive procedure to repair brain aneurysms and a system for irradiating hard-to-reach tumors. It is in year 20 of a 30-year affiliation agreement with Weill Cornell Medical College and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City — "a medical and scientific bridge between the North and South."
