Roper Hospital (Charleston, S.C.). Founded in 1829 as the first community hospital in the Carolinas, Roper Hospital has grown to include a 24-hour emergency room, a heart and vascular center as well as cancer and breast care services. The 368-bed hospital was named one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation by Truven Health Analytics in 2017. Roper Hospital is partnering with Medical University of South Carolina and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center to create a medical district in downtown Charleston that could begin construction next year.
