NPSF announces 2 patient safety award winners

The National Patient Safety Foundation has announced the two recipients of the 2015 Stand Up For Patient Safety Management Awards: the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and Great Neck, N.Y.-based North Shore-LIJ Health System.

The award recognizes the successful implementation of outstanding patient safety initiatives by organizational members of the NPSF Stand Up for Patient Safety program

UMMC's award will recognize a program the medical center successfully implemented to reduce inpatient falls from 6.2 falls per 1,000 patient days during August 2014 to 1.19 falls per 1,000 days by the end of the year.

North Shore-LIJ will received the award for its efforts to ensure accurate patient identification through a structured, standardized process implemented in all inpatient, ambulatory, clinical and nonclinical settings systemwide.

The awards will be officially presented to the recipient organizations at the 17th Annual NPSF Patient Safety Congress in Austin, Texas, held between April 29 and May 1.
