Cook County Health to add 160k members to Medicaid managed care plan

Chicago-based Cook County Health & Hospitals System is buying a significant portion of Family Health Network's Medicaid business in Illinois, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

Under the deal, Cook County Health & Hospitals' CountyCare Medicaid plan will take on more than 160,000 Family Health Network members, effective Nov. 1. According to Crain's Chicago Business, the deal will more than double CountyCare's enrollment.

Commenting on the transaction, Cook County Health & Hospitals CEO John Jay Shannon, MD, told Crain's Chicago Business, "We're competing with national, privately held insurance plans. There are times we've got to act like one."
