Aetna CEO calls Louisville 'the most important part of our business'

Although Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna has offices across the world, CEO Mark Bertolini reassured Louisville citizens that Aetna's acquisition of Louisville, Ky.-based Humana will help the city, according to WDRB.com.

"[W]e have made a commitment to only one community as the location for the most important part of our business, and that's Louisville," Mr. Bertolini said Jan. 26 at the Greater Louisville Incorporated annual meeting.

If the merger is approved, the combined company's headquarters will remain in Hartford, but Louisville will be the primary location of its government businesses, including Medicare Advantage.

During the meeting, Humana CEO Bruce Broussard also highlighted the significance of Louisville. "I know what's on everyone's mind here. It's, 'What is this transaction going to do to Humana and how is it going to help or hurt the city and state?' Mr. Broussard said. "... I think and believe, and Mark believes, this city and this state will be a net beneficiary of the transaction ... I really believe you're going to see more and more jobs created in the community."
