Kern Medical Center Plans Layoffs, Department Closures

Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, Calif., may close two departments and lay off employees soon, according to a KBAK/KBFX report.

Hospital leaders plan to recommend to the Kern County Board of Supervisors that they close the home health and outpatient physical therapy departments at the board meeting June 17, according to the report.

Leadership also plans to recommend implementing layoffs at the KMC at this month's meeting. More information on the recommended layoffs will be available in the coming weeks, KBAK reported.

KMC is county-owned, and the board of supervisors has the decision-making power when it comes to layoffs and department closures.

KMC is on its way to a $30 million loss for this fiscal year, which ends in June.
