Chelsea is part of Livonia, Mich.-based parent company Trinity Health, which formed an affiliation with UMHS in March 2012. The newly expanded agreement allows UMHS patients to receive emergency care and adult hospitalization for some general medical conditions at Chelsea, rather than its main Ann Arbor campus.
Chelsea recently completed a $40 million, 130,000-square-foot addition to add 54 beds and a 20-room emergency department, made possible through capital it acquired from its merger with Ypsilanti, Mich.-based Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in 2009, which is also part of Trinity Health.
