30 Noteworthy Hospital and Healthcare Executive Moves from 2010

1. University Hospital in Cincinnati named Nancy Barone COO in October.

2. In October, Gritman Medical Center in Moscow, Idaho, named Kara Besst interim CEO following the death of president and CEO Jeff Martin in a car accident.

3. Rush University Medical Center in Chicago promoted Peter W. Butler to president of the hospital in September. 

4. Beaumont Hospitals, Mich., appointed K. Bobbi Carbone, MD, of Houston, Texas, to executive vice president and COO. Dr. Carbone started work July 26, 2010.

5. Larry Dodds, executive vice president and COO of Adventist Health, headquartered in Roseville, Calif., will retire in May after almost 40 years with the health system.

6. St. Luke's Health System fired Earl Fitzpatrick, CEO of North Canyon Medical Center in Gooding, Idaho, in September. Devan Johnson, St. Luke's director of regional services, took over as North Canyon's interim CEO.

7. Charles Frock announced his resignation as CEO of FirstHealth of the Carolinas in Pinehurst, N.C., in November.

8. Oregon Health & Science University in Portland hired Lawrence J. Furnstahl as CFO, effective Jan. 3, 2011.

9. Massachusetts-based Partners HealthCare COO Thomas P. Glynn announced he will leave the health system at the end of 2010 to teach at Harvard.

10. Crystal Haynes stepped down as CEO of Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis to pursue other opportunities. COO Dawn Anuszkiewicz was appointed to interim administrator and will oversee the hospital's daily operations. Her appointment was effective Dec. 22, 2010.

11. In June, Baylor College of Medicine named Paul Klotman, MD, as its new president and CEO. Dr. Klotman began his new position on Sept. 1, 2010.

12. Alfred B. Knight, MD, president and CEO of Scott & White Healthcare, based in Temple, Texas, announced his retirement in August. Dr. Knight will be succeeded by COO and CMO Robert W. Pryor, MD. Dr. Knight and Dr. Pryor will work together for a year to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.

13. WellPoint executive vice president Dijuana Lewis was fired by the Indianapolis- based insurance company in October. Samuel Nussbaum, MD, WellPoint's CMO, assumed Ms. Lewis' role on an interim basis.

14. Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City named Kevin Molloy senior vice president and COO in December.

15. Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., named Ed Noseworthy as CEO, effective Jan. 2, 2011.

16. Akron (Ohio) General Medical Center rehired Alan Papa and named him president, effective Jan. 31, 2011.

17. In August, Frank Perez, CEO of Dayton, Ohio-based Kettering Health Network, announced he will retire.

18. Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health named Scott Reiner as executive vice president and COO.

19. Eneida Roldan, MD, president and CEO of Miami-based Jackson Health System, will not renew her contract on June 1, 2011.

20. Stanford Hospital & Clinics in Palo Alto, Calif., appointed Amir Dan Rubin as president and CEO, effective Jan. 3, 2011.

21. Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus named C. Michael Rutherford CFO, effective Jan. 4, 2011.

22. Richard Salluzzo, MD, CEO of Hyannis, Mass.-based Cape Cod Healthcare, stepped down in November. Michael Lauf will serve as acting president and CEO until a successor is found.

23. WellStar Health System's president and CEO Gregory Simone was fired by the Georgia system's board in September. Jim Budzinski, WellStar's executive vice president and CFO, was appointed acting president and CEO while the board conducts a national search for Mr. Simone's replacement.

24. Allentown, Penn.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network's longtime president and CEO, Elliot J. Sussman, MD, announced his resignation in November.

25. Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives, the nation's second-largest Catholic health system, named Dean Swindle as its new CFO and executive vice president, business services, effective May 17.

26. Ronald W. Swinfard, MD was named president and CEO of Allentown, Penn.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network.

27. Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Healthcare System reorganized its top leadership in preparation for an accountable care organization. Susan Stout Tamme, president of Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, will become president of the Louisville market for Baptist Healthcare System. David Gray, president of Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Ky., will replace Ms. Tamme and become president of Baptist Hospital East. Dennis Johnson, an administrator at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange, Ky., will replace Mr. Gray. Finally, Chris Roty, vice president of Baptist East, will also serve as an administrator at Baptist Hospital Northeast while continuing his duties as vice president of Baptist East.

28. Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente promoted Bernard Tyson, executive vice president, to president and COO, effective immediately.

29. The board of directors at Sharon (Penn.) Regional Health System requested and received the resignation of its president and CEO, John ZidansekJohn R. "Jack" Janoso was promoted from the system's vice president to COO and acting president.

30. The board of directors at White Mountain Regional Medical Center in Springerville, Ariz., fired CEO Michael Zimmerman in October.
