Ahead of approval to acquire Cigna, Anthem announces CFO transition

Indianapolis-based Anthem has named John E. Gallina executive vice president and CFO, effective June 1.

Mr. Gallina succeeds Wayne S. DeVeydt, who, after serving for nine years as executive vice president and CFO, is stepping down, citing family commitments and philanthropic work.

"Given the progress we have made with regard to the regulatory review of our Cigna acquisition and the work underway to identify the new leadership team for the combined company, Wayne felt that it would be best to step down from his role at this point," said Anthem CEO Joseph Swedish. "On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to thank Wayne for his service to our company."

Mr. Gallina has worked with Anthem or one of its affiliated companies since 1994. He currently serves as senior vice president and CFO for Anthem's Commercial and Specialty Business Division. He's held several other roles with Anthem, including chief accounting officer, chief risk officer, internal audit and continuous improvement officer and CFO for comprehensive health services. Before joining Anthem, Mr. Gallina spent 12 years with Coopers & Lybrand.

Anthem expects net income for full year 2016 to be greater than $9.65 per share, which includes expected net income of greater than $1.15 per share of net unfavorable items. Excluding these items, adjusted net income is still expected to be greater than $10.80 per share.
