Not yet ICD-10 ready? HIMSS launched an interactive ICD-10 guide to help

Although the Oct. 1 ICD-10 deadline has passed, not all organizations have completed the transition. HIMSS launched its ICD-10 Transition Step-by-Step Guide to assist those who have not yet completely made the transition to the new code set.

"While we expect most providers to be ready by October 1, many have pushed conversion to ICD-10 right up to the deadline," Bonnie Sunday, MD, chair of HIMSS ICD-10 Task Force, said in a statement prior to the deadline. "The guide will guide them to quick and practical solutions if problems occur."

Considering that claims made to CMS using ICD-9 codes will no longer be reimbursed, the HIMSS ICD-10 Task Force created the interactive tool to guide providers through three possible scenarios:

• Processing ICD-10 claims
• Handling ICD-10 claims that are sent to payers, but reimbursement hasn't been received
• Processing claims filed by payers with mistmatched reimbursement amounts

After selecting a scenario, the interactive guide walks the provider through short and long term solution options, including links to relevant resources. For those that already have ICD-10 systems in place, there is a walkthrough for troubleshooting incorrect reimbursement or rejected claims.
