CMS releases online tool for Quality Payment Program

CMS launched an Application Program Interface that makes it easier to share electronic data for MACRA's Quality Payment Program.

In October, CMS revealed the program's website.

The new API, called the Explores Measures tool, supplements the website by enabling organizations to "retrieve and maintain the Quality Payment Program's measures and enable them to build applications for clinicians and their practices." The Explores Measures tool allows clinicians to choose specific measures, group them together and save them for later reference. The tool is available at qpp.cms.gov/education.

The tool's launch is the first in a number of tool releases through which CMS will strive to reduce the burden on clinicians.

"An important part of the Quality Payment Program is to make it easier and less expensive to participate, so clinicians may focus on seeing patients," CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt said in a statement. "This first release is a step in that process, both for physicians and the technologists who support them."
