Cisco CTO to depart after less than 2 years in position

Cisco CTO Zorawar Biri Singh plans to leave the San Jose, Calif.-based company at the end of this month, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Mr. Singh, one of Cisco's top cloud executives, became CTO in June 2015. He previously worked as a partner at Menlo Park, Calif.-based venture capital firm Khosla Ventures. He previously held positions at Hewlett-Packard and IBM. Before those roles, Mr. Singh served as acting CEO of JRG Software, a startup company.

Mr. Singh's departure is a result of an "updated alignment" of Cisco's engineering teams, the company said in a statement.

"Cisco is making the decisions needed for innovation, speed and growth across our portfolio," according to the company's statement published in the Silicon Valley Business Journal. "We believe these changes will help us simplify our development efforts and accelerate delivery of value for our customers."

In August, Cisco announced plans to cut 5,500 employees, equivalent to 7 percent of its workforce.
