Cerner impersonation scheme lands 2 more people in prison

Two more co-conspirators in the Cerner impersonation fraud scheme have been sentenced to serving time in federal prison, according to a Kansas City Star report. On April 24, Albert Davis — the leader of the conspiracy — was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the scheme that involved creating a fake company impersonating Cerner.

Mr. Davis and his co-conspirators Christina Bryant, Richard Bryant, David Hernon and David Tayce created a fake company called Cerner LLC. They even created fictitious employees, some having the same names as real Cerner employees. They opened a bank account, bought an internet domain as well as produced fake documents, agreements and invoices.

A U.S. District Court in Kansas City also sentenced the remaining co-defendants in the case.

Mr. Tayce has been sentenced to five years and six months in federal prison, while Mr. Hernon was sentenced to four years and four months.

The other two co-conspirators Mr. and Mrs. Bryant, who are husband and wife, received five years of probation. The Bryants were employees of Mr. Davis, however, they were not involved in planning the fraud, a written sentencing memorandum filed by the couple's attorney notes, according to the report.

All the co-conspirators were also ordered to pay restitution costs. Mr. Davis and Mr. Tayce together must pay $19 million, while Mr. Hernon must pay $6 million. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant have been ordered to pay $8 million, the Kansas City Star reports.
