Cerner exec says UG health clinic is one of many to come

Cerner partnered with two other organizations to open a health center in Kansas City, Kan., Dec. 16. Cerner Vice President of Population Health Services Mike Heckman said this isn't the last health center the health IT vendor will help open, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

Cerner worked with Kansas City-based University of Kansas Hospital and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan., to open the center for all UG employees. Staffed by KU Hospital physicians, the health center offers various wellness and preventive services, including vaccinations and skin cancer screenings. The Road to Wellness Health Center will also open to UG employees' families in 2017.

This is the eighth on-site health center Cerner has helped open in the greater Kansas City area. The IT vendor also operates 40 on-site clinics across the world. Mr. Heckman said the company hopes to open more centers in the future as the demand for such facilities increases.

"I'm very bullish on the market," Mr. Heckman said, according to the report. "You've seen a steady trend upward in entities that have turned on an on-site health center or are considering doing it in the future."
