9 Most Recent Healthcare Data Breaches

Here are nine data breaches that occurred within the last month, starting with the most recent.  


1. Buffalo, N.Y.-based Dent Neurologic Institute announced that an administrative clerk accidentally emailed the personal information of 10,000 patients to approximately 200 patients.

2. Presbyterian Anesthesia Associates in Charlotte, N.C., disclosed that a hacker gained access to the personal information of 9,988 people by breaking through a security loophole on the practice's website, according to a Charlotte Observer report.

3. Indiana University Health Arnett in Lafayette announced that an employee's laptop containing patient information was stolen from the employee's car.

4. The Regional Medical Center at Memphis (Tenn.) issued a public notice saying that it discovered three emails were accidentally sent out that included the personal information of some outpatient physical therapy patients.

5. Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic in Cary, N.C., announced that it notified 17,300 patients of a potential data breach.

6. The University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center announced that it sent letters to 537 former orthopedic patients alerting them of a potential data breach.

7. Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., notified 283 patients of a potential data breach.  

8. Hope Hospice announced that it identified a potential data breach that could affect 818 patients.

9. Glens Falls (N.Y.) Hospital was slammed with a class-action lawsuit after the names and medical records of 2,360 patients were accidentally released.
