CHI to shutter Washington state hospital

Tacoma, Wash.-based CHI Franciscan Health has filed a letter of intent to shutter Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Wash., and transfer more than 250 beds to its facility in Silverdale, Wash., reports The Seattle Times.

The letter of intent, filed Aug. 24 with the Washington State Department of Health, indicates the health system aims to cut operating costs and expand services to patients by closing the Bremerton campus.

"Harrison has been operating two hospitals, which means we have duplications of services, technology and staffing that is financially unsustainable," CHI Franciscan spokesperson Scott Thompson told The Seattle Times.

The system plans to open an outpatient surgery center in Bremerton to continue serving the patient population. It will file a certificate of need to expand its facility in Silverdale, according to the article.
