8 recent hospital bankruptcies, closures

Here are eight hospitals that filed for bankruptcy protection or closed since October.

1. On Nov. 17 a state panel approved Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System's plan to close St. Mary's Hospital in Streator, Ill. The system plans to discontinue healthcare services at the hospital on Jan. 4, 2016. 

2. Bowie (Texas) Memorial Hospital closed Nov. 16.

3. East Orange (N.J.) General Hospital filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in early November.

4. In November, Newton, Miss.-based Pioneer Community Hospital officials announced plans to close the hospital by the end of the year. 

5. Forest Park Medical Center's Dallas hospital closed Oct. 30.

6. In October, Pomona, N.Y.-based Summit Park Hospital and Nursing Care Center announced plans to shut down by Dec. 31.

7. In October, Forest Park Medical Center's San Antonio hospital closed after the hospital's property owner filed for bankruptcy protection.

8. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health closed Franklin Medical Center in Louisburg, N.C., in October.
