The system implemented ShiftMed, an AI-based workforce platform, to help match 300 clinicians’ availability to open clinic shifts. The tool reduces barriers to picking up shifts by offering mobile credentialing, instant payment technology and Uber rides for transportation, among other features.
Since implementing the scheduling tool, participation in the system’s internal float pool has doubled. Staff members’ average shifts per month jumped from four to eight, equating to more than 3,500 shifts filled and a 100% increase in shifts worked, according to a Feb. 19 news release.
UNC plans to expand the technology to inpatient sites and create an external per diem pool to support its acute care workforce.
