The May 1 poll asked approximately 1,300 medical practice leaders if their organization saw a shortage of qualified nonclinical applicants in the past year. More than 60 percent of respondents indicated “yes.” Some of their reasons included: “finding medical assistants is very difficult” and “recruiting millennials is a completely different game,” according to an article by Nick Fabrizio, PhD, principal with MGMA Consulting, which expands on the issue.
Thirty-five percent of respondents said they have not experienced a shortage of qualified nonclinical applicants in the past year. They indicated “not having open positions in the past year, increasing wages to retain staff or turnover in other industries causing employees to want to continue working in healthcare” amid the reasons for their answer, according to Dr. Fabrizio’s article.
