Pine Rest partnered with Allendale, Mich.-based Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Calvin University, Cornerstone University, and Davenport University, and Sidney, Mich.-based Montcalm Community College to provide qualifying students with an employment-based scholarship program through the Pine Rest Academy.
The scholarship provides up to $10,000 per semester, $40,000 total, for each student who qualifies and commits to the stipulations.
To qualify for the academy, students must be accepted into a nursing program and commit to working at Pine Rest Mental Health Services during nursing school and for two years after they are licensed through the state of Michigan.
Lola Coke, PhD, acting Dean of the Kirkhof College of Nursing at Grand Valley State University, said the scholarship offers unique educational experiences to enhance students’ understanding of behavioral health.
“The creative partnerships give us an opportunity to look at nursing education, look at how we teach our students in nursing, and be able to look at new ways of enhancing our curriculum as well as helping our practice partners with their nursing care delivery,” said Dr. Coke.
The Pine Rest Academy is a three-year partnership between the facility and the partnering accredited nursing institutions. While participating in the program, students will work with registered nurses and nurse practitioners to address and monitor patients’ mental health and behavioral conditions.
