NUHW’s 4,000 members at Kaiser will be joined by 17,000 registered nurses with the California Nurses Association and 650 members of the Stationary Engineers Local 39, who will be striking in solidarity with NUHW.
According to the NUHW news release, Kaiser nurses are protesting against proposed reductions to employee healthcare coverage and retirement benefits. The nurses and Kaiser administrators have also been unable to agree on staffing levels. The planned Jan. 31 strike will be the fourth time NUHW Kaiser nurses have walked the picket line since they began bargaining with administrators in 2010.
