The newly announced layoffs are the second round of job cuts at the hospital this year. In addition, the hospital will require administrators, managers and supervisors to take two days unpaid leave.
The hospital cited reductions in state funding as one reason for the layoffs. HCMC’s state funding was cut by $7 million in early 2008 and by 12 million in Dec. 2008, which affected the 2009 budget. In addition, HCMC reported losses of $10 million in the first quarter of this year due to declining inpatient volume, likely a result of the recession.
