A recent Massachusetts Medical Society study found severe shortages in eight of 18 medical specialties, according to the report. However, both St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River and New Bedford-based Southcoast Hospitals Group have been able to expand their physician base.
In the report, Cynthia Marlborough, vice president of business development at Southcoast, said some of the factors of the organization’s success in hiring include a large physician network, an existing infrastructure, funds for malpractice insurance and administrative staff and technology support. Craig Jesiolowski, president of St. Anne’s, said his hospital’s strategy is partnering with existing medical practices in the community, according to the report.
